Pensacola's main beach has been called Casino Beach since 1931, when the original Casino opened at the foot of a new pier. Not a gambling hall but a restaurant, resort, and activity center, it was the first attraction you could reach by car over the newly built Pensacola Bay Bridge, and the destination for locals and tourists alike until it was demolished in 1972. The founders opened their bar & grille on that same site at the foot of the pier, so the name chose itself.
